Convenor's Report 2015

Digital Library Special Interest Group

Convenor’s Report 2015

The Digital Library Special Interest Group (DigLibSig) Committee for 2014 consisted of Helen Brownlie (Convenor, University of Otago), Bob Pearson (Treasurer, University of Auckland), Peter Kennedy (University of Canterbury), John Laurie (University of Auckland), Ruth Lewis (National Library of New Zealand), Kim Salamonson (Hastings District Libraries), Paul Sutherland (Christchurch City Libraries), and Jason Thompson (University of Auckland). My personal thanks to these people for their time, input and contribution to the Committee.

Membership of DigLibSig slightly increased during the year and stand at 145 people and organisations.

The DigLibSIG email listserv continues to be used by both members and non-members, and the DigLibSig wiki (http://lianzaitsig.pbworks.com/w/page/27587931/FrontPage) is regularly updated with information relating to digital library issues.

With the demise of Scopus Zoom is now being used for DigLibSig Committee meetings and other activities.

The main DigLibSig activity for 2015 was the Digital Libraries UnConference held on 12 November at the Wellington City Libraries. This was attended by 42 people from all the library sectors. Follow-up information from the UnConference is available at http://lianzaitsig.pbworks.com/w/page/27587931/DigLibSIG%20WIKI .

As no workshop was held at the LIANZA Conference 2015 there was no opportunity to schedule the AGM at the Conference.

Using a number of the suggested topics from the UnConference planning is underway for a Webinar series to be held in 2016.

What was very evident at this year’s UnConference is that our members have an untapped wealth of expertise and knowledge that we should be sharing with everyone. Online tools provide us with opportunities that as a SIG should be taking advantage of.
