Convenor’s Report 2016

 

The Digital Library Special Interest Group (DigLibSig) Committee for 2016 was Helen Brownlie (Convenor, University of Otago), Bob Pearson (Treasurer, University of Auckland), John Laurie (University of Auckland), Kim Salamonson (Hastings District Libraries), Paul Sutherland (Christchurch City Libraries), and Jason Thompson (University of Auckland). A big thank you to everyone for their time, input and contribution to DigLibSig during the year.

 

As at 23 February 2017, membership of DigLibSig is 112 individuals and organisation.

 

The DigLibSIG email listserv continues to be used by both members and non-members, and the DigLibSig wiki (http://lianzaitsig.pbworks.com/w/page/27587931/FrontPage) is updated with information relating to digital library issues.

 

The main DigLibSig activity for 2016 was the Friday Lunchtime Webinar series:

1. Exposing content using social media (23 September)

Presentations by: Donna Robertson (Christchurch City Libraries), Anna Blackman (University of Otago), and Reuben Schrader (National Library)

 

2. Ask the expert: Google Analytics – measuring usage and impact (7 October)

Presentations by: Merrin Brewster (University of Otago) and Michael Lascarides (National Library)

 

3. Gateways, portals and local interfaces (21 October)

Presentations by: Brian Flaherty (University of Auckland) and Paul Sutherland (Christchurch City Libraries)

 

4. The marketing and promotion of e-resources to users (4 November)

Presentations by: Helen Brownlie (University of Otago), Fiona Mcgregor (Wellington City Libraries) and Paul Sutherland (Christchurch City Libraries)

 

The series had an average of 25 unique logins per session, and the recordings and presentations are available on the DigLibSig Wiki.

 

Planning has already started for a number of activities for the coming year. This will include a session at the LIANZA Conference in Christchurch, a post conference event, and another Friday lunchtime webinar series.
