Convenor Report 2004

Page history last edited by John Laurie 9 years, 9 months ago

The ITSIG Committee met at irregular intervals throughout the year, using audioconferencing technology. Fleur Schultz resigned from the Committee in April 2004, and I would like to thank her for her contribution to the SIG.

During the first part of the year, the group worked on setting up the ITSIG wiki, and launching it at the ITSIG workshop at the Napier Conference. The ITSIG workshop was well attended, and the main topic discussed was implementing proxy servers.

The Committee decided offer a $1,000 sponsorship for one person to attend the VALA conference in Melbourne in February 2004. There were 4 applications. Three committee members evaluated the applications based on the criteria

  • why the applicant wished to attend
  • how the sponsorship would benefit his or her personal and/or professional development
  • how the sponsorship would benefit other ITSIG members

Rose Holley of AU was selected. She posted her conference report to the ITSIG email discussion list on 24 February 2004. It also appeared in the April 2004 Library Life.

During the second part of the year, the Committee decided to sponsor David Seaman as a keynote speaker at the LIANZA conference in September 2004, and either have him give a separate workshop before or after the main conference, or be a special guest at the ITSIG workshop during the conference.

The ITSIG wiki has had some contributions from community members, and the early days sparked an interesting discussion about standards. It is occasionally the target of WikiSpam. One incidence of this corrupted two files; they were restored from the web host’s backups.
