Digital Library Special Interest Group

Convenor’s Report 2014

The Digital Library Special Interest Group (DigLibSig) Committee for 2014 consisted of Helen Brownlie (Convenor, University of Otago), Bob Pearson (Treasurer, University of Auckland),  Ngai Deckard (Central Hawkes Bay District Council), Peter Kennedy (University of Canterbury), John Laurie (University of Auckland), Ruth Lewis (National Library of New Zealand), Kim Salamonson (Hastings District Libraries), and Paul Sutherland (Christchurch City Libraries), My personal thanks to these people for their time, input and contribution to the Group.

Membership of DigLibSig slightly increased during the year. As at March 2015 membership stood at 130 people and organisations.

The DigLibSIG email listserv continues to be used by both members and non-members, and the DigLibSig wiki (http://lianzaitsig.pbworks.com/w/page/27587931/FrontPage) is regularly updated with information relating to digital library issues.

The main activities of DigLibSig for 2014 were the Digital Libraries Workshop and an UnConference both held in Auckland in October

A large number of people attended the Digital Libraries Workshop at the 2014 LIANZA Conference. Presentations included Ways to engage with your community, Building staff engagement with new digital products, and Digitisation and copyright, and E-Lending issues and content.

DigLibSig once again hosted a successful Digital Libraries UnConference at the University of Auckland. A summary of the UnConference activities and follow-up information is available on the DigLibSig wiki. Planning is underway for the 2015 UnConference on 12 November in Wellington.

In this time of busyness and conflicting priorities it becomes much harder to find people willing to participate in the activities planned by the Committee. Let’s make 2015 the year to be involved. Don’t wait to be asked - suggest an activity, volunteer to do a presentation, or become a Committee member. There are opportunities for everyone. Please take advantage of them.
